Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz - Events Trier

Since 1992, Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz has been one of Germany's largest nationwide festival formats. Each year, under a thematic motto, it supports around 250 cultural projects across all genres – theatre, dance, music, visual arts, literature, interdisciplinary formats – with funding from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The motto for 2026 is 'The Roaring Twenties', dedicated to the multifaceted decade between 1918 and 1933: upheaval and inflation, cabaret and Bauhaus, the women's movement and film art, economic crises and political polarization. The program explores the resonances of that era in the 21st century, making the historical tensions tangible for today's audience.

In Trier, Germany's oldest city with a rich cultural heritage and a vibrant contemporary culture, Kultursommer 2026 is present with several productions:

• 'Moving Stones': Open-air dance production on August 14th and 15th, 2026
• Jazz im Brunnenhof: Classical and contemporary concerts in one of the most beautiful courtyards of Trier's old town

The Trier program is embedded within a statewide season running from May to October 2026. Kultursommer thus creates a cultural framework that connects the diversity of Trier's cultural landscape with supra-regional discourse.
