32nd Open-Air Cultural Festival in the Fortress City with the motto The Golden Twenties and a program of concerts, musicals, cinema, and city walks
The Kultursommer Germersheim is one of the oldest and most renowned open-air festivals in the Southern Palatinate and is under the motto Die Goldenen Zwanziger (The Golden Twenties) in 2026. The City of Germersheim, through its festival office of the same name, is the organizer, curating the individual dates and locating them within the historically impressive spaces of the former Prussian Federal Fortress Germersheim.
The Germersheim Fortress was built in the mid-19th century by Bavaria as a federal fortress and is considered one of the most important preserved fortress complexes in Germany today. Several of its structures—especially the Ludwigstor, the Weißenburger Tor, the bastions, and the former parade ground—repeatedly serve as the stage for concerts, theater performances, and film nights during the Kultursommer.
The 32nd edition is under the motto Die Goldenen Zwanziger (The Golden Twenties)—a programmatic theme that references the interwar period, the Berlin of the Golden Twenties, and the visual aesthetics of the era, but also invites contemporary artists to create adaptations and connections to the present.
The festival runs from May 17 to July 4, 2026. Confirmed dates include the open-air cinema on June 26, the family day with a musical on June 28, and the traditional STADTWALK with an after-party on July 4, which marks the grand finale of the festival.
The family day on June 28 is specifically aimed at families with children and includes a musical program with a high degree of audience participation. In addition, various concerts and program items offer reduced admission for schoolchildren, students, and families.
The complete 2026 program will be published by Kultursommer Germersheim on kultursommer-germersheim.de. The central dates in June and July have been confirmed so far; further concert and cultural dates in May and June will be added in the spring.
Tickets are available via AD Ticket, the festival office, and at the box office.
