Overview

KulturRotation 142 took place on June 7, 2025, as the first full-scale edition after several reduced pandemic years. Around 70 acts, 30+ venues, free admission — a moving testament that the format is working despite the Kiel city council's austerity measures and reaches a broad audience. Organizer: Kultur- und Kreativrat Gaarden with funding from the Soziale Stadt program.

Comeback After Austerity Round

The 2025 edition was marked by public debate about cuts to cultural funding in Kiel — many feared the end of KulturRotation. In fact, the 142nd edition was able to take place, thanks to a mix of municipal cultural funding, federal and state funds via the Soziale Stadt program, and volunteer engagement in the neighborhood. Several thousand visitors thronged Gaarden, with many venues reaching capacity until midnight.

2025 Program Highlights

Returning acts like The Büdels and Damaskus, alongside new performances from the local singer-songwriter scene and an expanded theater program at the Räucherei. The aftershow party was officially extended to 3 AM for the first time due to high demand.
