A Festival, Many Voices

The Kulturkarussell Wilhelmshaven is different from most city festivals: it has no central main stage, but distributes its program across numerous stations along Virchowstraße. The Kunsthalle, Volkshochschule, library, club rooms, cafés, and open spaces become venues. The audience wanders from station to station, discovers different programs, and decides for themselves where to linger. This turns the festival into a journey through Wilhelmshaven's cultural diversity.

Motto: Acoustic and Unplugged

The motto “Acoustic and Unplugged” gives the festival a special sonic identity. It's not about large PA systems and headliner concerts, but about intimate, handmade music. Acoustic guitar, singer-songwriters, small jazz ensembles, choirs, folk trios — the range is wide, the quality surprisingly high. Local musicians, often volunteering, contribute to the program. In addition, clubs present their work, and artists showcase their creations.

Networked Cultural Landscape

The Kulturkarussell is organized by the Volkshochschule Wilhelmshaven in cooperation with numerous cultural institutions along Virchowstraße. Registration for participating clubs is open until April at the VHS. The festival is free for visitors and is financed by municipal funds and sponsors. It is an example of successful cooperation between cultural institutions, clubs, and the city administration.
