Crime on the Big Stage
For years, the Staatstheater Braunschweig has been one of the most important venue partners for the Braunschweig Crime Festival. While readings, crime scene tours, and crime dinners take place throughout the city, the Staatstheater offers a special format with its own programme line, "Crime Festival in the Theatre": crime in stage formats – with professional direction, lighting, sound, and the theatre's ensemble.
Stage Formats for Crime Fans
The programme includes, among others:
- Staged readings with actors from the ensemble
- Crime plays as small stage productions
- Live radio plays with sound effects and a voice ensemble
- Readings by prominent crime authors in a theatrical atmosphere
- Musically accompanied crime evenings
The Theatre as a Crime Venue
The connection between theatre and crime is no coincidence: the crime novel thrives on dramaturgy, suspense, character constellations – elements that have always shaped the theatre. The Staatstheater makes this kinship visible and gives readings a stage presence that is not possible in a classic bookstore setting.
Part of the Main Festival
The "Crime Festival in the Theatre" is part of the overall programme of the 19th Braunschweig Crime Festival and runs parallel from October 18th to November 1st, 2026. Tickets can be booked through the Staatstheater Braunschweig.
