Overview

The 132nd Hahnrupfen of the Domowina Youth Burg took place in July 2025 – a central Wendish-Sorbian harvest custom in the Upper Spreewald. Riders from Burg and the surrounding area competed for the oak leaf wreath, and the Harvest King and Queen were crowned.

The 132nd Hahnrupfen of the Domowina Youth Burg in 2025 was traditionally celebrated in the summer on Waldschlößchenstraße. Young riders, at a gallop, reached for the rooster's head and wings – a custom that keeps the oldest Wendish harvest traditions of Lower Lusatia alive.

The festival was framed by a program of Sorbian costumes and dances, and a festival tent offering traditional wedding soup, bratwurst, and Plinsen. The Domowina Youth Burg thus makes an important contribution to preserving the identity of the Sorbian minority.
