Bentheim Castle is one of Lower Saxony's most significant medieval structures, perched above the town of the same name in the border region with the Netherlands. The medieval market unfolds around the main combat arena. Blacksmiths, turners, jewelers, leatherworkers, bow makers, and potters demonstrate their crafts and offer their wares. On several stages, music groups perform with historically informed programs: bagpipes, shawms, hurdy-gurdies, and drums form the sonic framework. The folk group Gradem Aventure is one of the festival's regular acts, delivering multiple sets throughout the weekend.
Jugglers and Theatre
Jugglers, acrobats, and theatre groups move through the grounds between the market stalls. Strolling through the park, visitors encounter fire artistry, juggling, small theatrical performances, and musical improvisations. This fills the festival grounds with movement and sound throughout the day.
