Kloster Ebstorf as a Musical Venue
Kloster Ebstorf is one of the six Protestant women's convents of the Lüneburg Heath monasteries. Over the centuries, the former Benedictine convent has developed into a significant cultural site — known not only for the Ebstorfer Weltkarte (Ebstorf World Map) but also as a venue for music. The Concert Season 2026 runs from April to November and utilises the three acoustically distinct, yet unique, rooms of the monastery.
The Nonnenchor — Warm Acoustics
The Nonnenchor is famous for its particularly warm and resonant acoustics. The historic room, where the convent sisters once spent their prayer times, is ideal for sacred music, choirs, and smaller vocal ensembles. Gregorian chant, Renaissance, and Baroque music unfold their full effect here. Concerts in the Nonnenchor are often the highlights of the season.
Old Refektorium — Chamber Music Room
The Old Refektorium — formerly the nuns' dining hall — with its high walls and timbered ceiling, is the ideal space for chamber music. String quartets, piano trios, woodwind ensembles, and song recitals find their perfect stage here. The room offers an intimate atmosphere with limited seating — concerts become personal encounters between musicians and the audience.
Monastery Church — Larger Ensembles
The Monastery Church provides space for larger ensembles and choirs. Organ concerts, oratorios, and concerts with choir and orchestra take place here. The historic architecture and ecclesiastical atmosphere contribute to the impact of sacred music. Special concerts are also held here during Advent and on holidays.
Hannes and his Friends at Domänenplatz
The indoor season is complemented by the open-air concert series at Domänenplatz with Hannes und seine Freunde. Six dates between May and October bring acoustic music to the unique outdoor setting in front of the monastery walls. The series is established as its own festival with its own ticketing.
Exhibition in the Propsteihalle
A exhibition in the Propsteihalle runs concurrently with the concert season. Rotating exhibitions on monastery history, religious art, calligraphy, or contemporary art with a spiritual connection complement the cultural programme. Visitors attending a concert can also combine it with an exhibition visit and a monastery tour.
Detailed Programme
The exact 2026 programme with all concerts, artists, and dates will be published by Kloster Ebstorf via kloster-ebstorf.de and ticket portals such as reservix.de and adticket.de. Early booking is recommended as many concerts sell out.
