Traditional village Kirmes in Neuhäusel in the southern Westerwaldkreis over three days in mid-May
The Kirmes Neuhäusel is one of the traditional village festivals in the southern Westerwaldkreis. The small Westerwald community of Neuhäusel transforms into a festive stronghold for a weekend in May. Neighbors, relatives, clubs, and guests from surrounding areas come together to celebrate the Kirmes tradition.
In 2026, the Kirmes Neuhäusel will run from Friday, May 15th to Sunday, May 17th. Three days of events with the raising of the Kirmes tree, dance evenings, Kirmes church service, Frühschoppen (morning pint), and a family program — the typical mix of Westerwald Kirmes tradition.
The local community of Neuhäusel is located in the southern Westerwaldkreis, in the Verbandsgemeinde Höhr-Grenzhausen, just a few kilometers north of Koblenz and on the edge of the Kannenbäckerland. The community, with just under 1,700 inhabitants, proudly maintains its club life and village traditions — the annual Kirmes is one of the most important social events.
Like all Westerwald Kirmessen, the Neuhäusel Kirmes follows a proven pattern: raising a decorated Kirmes tree, a festive opening with a keg tapping ceremony, dance evenings with live music or a DJ, a Kirmes church service, Frühschoppen with a brass band, and a family program. The people of the Westerwald affectionately call their Kirmes “Wäller Kirmes” — a term of endearment for a tradition that fosters identity.
The Neuhäusel clubs are at the heart of the Kirmes — the fire department, sports clubs, brass bands, and carnival club. They organize program items and handle catering. The proceeds from the Kirmes flow directly back into village life.
The family-friendly atmosphere of a Westerwald Kirmes is unmistakable. Children romp around the Kirmes grounds, adults meet old acquaintances, and generations come together. Former residents of Neuhäusel often return to their hometown on this weekend to celebrate the Kirmes with their families.
