Tradition Before the Kirmes

The Bannberscheid Kirmes is not just the three-day festival weekend itself, but a cycle of traditions spanning several weeks. As early as Saturday, May 16th, 2026, the Kirmesburschen (fair lads) and helpers gather to wrap the Kirmeskrone, a traditional decoration that hangs over the festival grounds. A week later, on May 23rd, the Baumstellen – the festive raising of the Kirmesbaum – takes place, officially announced by the Wirges VG-Newsticker, marking a first social highlight before the actual Kirmes.

Three Days of Kirmes

From May 27th to 29th, 2026, the center of Bannberscheid transforms into a lively festival scene. The festival tent, live music, disco nights, family afternoon, carousel, and food stalls characterize the program. Local clubs and associations are involved with catering, program items, and traditional contributions.

Tombola and Kirmesjournal

Two hallmarks set the Bannberscheid Kirmes apart: the grand tombola with numerous prizes and the specially published Kirmesjournal, which documents village life, remembers deceased Bannberscheid residents, and collects anecdotes about Kirmes traditions. Both make the Kirmes a dense communal event.

Bannberscheid in the VG Wirges

Bannberscheid is located in the Verbandsgemeinde Wirges in the Westerwaldkreis, southwest of Montabaur. The Verbandsgemeinde documents the Kirmes on its website, thus integrating Bannberscheid into the overarching event network of the northern Westerwald region.
