Overview

After a five-year break due to the pandemic, the Burgweynacht returned to Kirkel Castle in 2025 with its 20th edition. A nativity scene exhibition, storytellers, a fire show, and candlelight made the weekend a rediscovery.

The 20th Burgweynacht on December 13th and 14th, 2025, marked the return of the medieval market after a pandemic-related break. The Friends of Kirkel Castle Association had staged the site with countless candles, Swedish fires, and torches — modern light shows were consistently avoided.

In the castle courtyard, lutenists and minstrels performed, a lovingly arranged nativity scene told the Christmas story, and St. Nicholas visited the children late in the afternoon on both days. Culinary highlights included tarte flambée from the stone oven, mulled wine, mead, chestnut soup, and potato pancakes. The admission fee of €2 per adult, as always, went towards the well excavation and the preservation of the castle ruins.
