Kirchweih at the Hesselberg
The Kirchweih Dambach is the village Kirchweih of the small Middle Franconian district of Dambach (municipality of Ehingen, Ansbach district) at the western foot of the Hesselberg. The municipality of Ehingen is part of the Hesselberg Tourist Association and comprises several districts (Dambach, Beyerberg, Hammerschmiede, Ehingen itself), each with its own Kirchweih.
Franconian Kirchweih Tradition
Like many Middle Franconian village Kärwen (Kirchweihen), the Dambach Kirchweih follows the classic rhythm: beer tapping on the eve (usually Saturday evening) with the first dance music in the festival tent, main Kirchweih Sunday with a festive church service, a shared lunch, morning pint (Frühschoppen), and an afternoon program. In Dambach, Kirchweih Sunday in 2026 is scheduled for July 19th, according to the Hesselberg Tourist Association.
Hesselberg – Highest Mountain in Middle Franconia
The Hesselberg, at 689 meters high, is the highest mountain in Middle Franconia and a scenic landmark of the region. The surrounding villages and market towns (Ehingen, Wittelshofen, Gerolfingen, Röckingen) maintain a dense Kirchweih calendar year – there's a Kärwa almost every weekend somewhere. The Hesselberg Tourist Association publishes the dates in a central calendar as a service for visitors.
Village Community as Organizer
The Dambach village community is the organizer of the Kirchweih. Catering, festival tent organization, beer tapping, and the festival parade are managed by local clubs (fire department, marksmen, war veterans and soldiers' association). The festival host is organized anew each year. The atmosphere is familiar and village-like – visitors quickly feel at home at a long beer tent table.
Middle Franconian Rural Life
Ehingen is located in southern Middle Franconia, geographically between Dinkelsbühl, Wassertrüdingen, and Gunzenhausen. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, meadows, forests, and small stream valleys. The Dambach Kirchweih is not a spectacular major tourist event, but one of those authentic village festivals that shape the Franconian summer weekend.
