Last Kerwe of the Ludwigshafen season in Luitpoldhain – Barrel tapping with wine instead of beer
Rheingönheim is one of the southernmost districts of Ludwigshafen and is located on the border with Vorderpfalz. With its village-like core, the Luitpoldhain as a central green space, and active club life, the district has retained its independent character. The annual Kerwe in October is the most important district event alongside the Spring Festival.
The Rheingönheimer Kerwe marks the end of the annual Ludwigshafen Kerwe season. After the Pfingstweidefest in May, the Pfalzfest and Stadtfest in June, the district Kerwen in August and September, and the Maudacher Kerwe at the beginning of October, it concludes the Kerwe calendar. This position as the season finale gives it special significance.
The Luitpoldhain – a traditional green space in Rheingönheim – has been the festival grounds for the Kerwe for decades. The park-like surroundings create a different atmosphere than the inner-city squares and give the Kerwe an open-air character with a backdrop of trees.
A special feature of the Rheingönheimer Kerwe is its opening with wine instead of beer. The traditional barrel tapping is carried out in Rheingönheim with a wine barrel – a clear reference to the South Palatinate wine culture, which already touches the north of the South Palatinate here on the outskirts of the city. This peculiarity distinguishes the Rheingönheimer Kerwe from all other Ludwigshafen district Kerwen.
Classic Kerwe attractions form the festival activities: Bumper cars (Autoscooter), throwing stalls, candy and snack stalls, smaller children's rides. Club catering with Palatinate specialties complements the showman offerings. A stage provides live music in the evening.
The Luitpoldhain becomes the backdrop for the Kerwe with showmen, a festival tent, and snack stalls. The park-like surroundings give the Kerwe its special open-air character.
