33rd Carnival Session of SKV Rot-Gold — one of Northern Germany's largest carnivals with Prince Nico I and Princess Antonia I.
The Karneval Stolzenau is an unusual occurrence in Lower Saxony — a state where the carnival tradition is significantly less pronounced than in the Rhineland. With its 33rd session and a marquee of approximately 1,400 m², the Stolzenau Carnival is one of the largest and most attractive carnival events in Northern Germany.
The organizer is SKV Rot-Gold e.V. (Stolzenau Carnival Club Rot-Gold), which has been cultivating and continuously expanding the carnival tradition in the Middle Weser region for over three decades. The club's colors and name refer to the Rhineland carnival tradition, which has been transferred here to the northern part of Germany.
For the 2026 session, Prince Nico I and Princess Antonia I have been crowned the royal couple. They will represent the club throughout the entire session and are the central figures at all official events.
Thursday 13.02. (Weiberfastnacht): Afternoon: Senior citizens' afternoon with carnival program for the older generation; Evening: Key handover — the keys to the municipality of Stolzenau are symbolically handed over to the royal couple; Gala session with satirical speeches (Büttenreden), dance performances, and show acts.
Friday 14.02.: Children's carnival in the afternoon with a child-friendly program; Evening: Grand DJ party with DJ Ernesto and DJ Tones in the marquee.
Saturday 15.02.: Grand Carnival Parade at 2 PM through Stolzenau with floats, guards, music bands, club banners, and costumed participants; followed by a final party in the marquee with a DJ program until late into the night.
Sunday 16.02.: Return of the keys to the municipality, dismantling, and conclusion of the session.
For travel to and from the event, the club organizes shuttle buses from the Nienburg District Transport Authority (VLN), connecting the main towns of the Middle Weser region to the marquee. This ensures safe travel without a car, contributing to high participation.
Due to safety and noise protection reasons, evening events have an admission age of 16 years and older. The children's afternoon on Friday is open to younger children, and the senior citizens' afternoon is aimed at the older demographic.
The full program, including start times for individual events, the parade route, and ticket prices, is available on karneval-in-stolzenau.de.
