Castle and Carnival — An Eifel Liaison

Rittersdorf on the Nims in the Bitburg-Prüm district of the Eifel is primarily known for Rittersdorf Castle, a late medieval moated castle that is now used as a hotel and event venue. This historic setting inspired the local carnival club's name: The KV Burgnarren represent the close connection between the carnival club and the village's landmark.

The Rose Monday Parade

On Rose Monday, February 16, 2026, starting at 2:11 PM, the traditional parade will wind through the village streets. Carnival floats, dance troupes, walking groups, and music bands from the Bitburg-Prüm district of the Eifel form the procession. A special feature is the guard of the KV Burgnarren, whose historical uniforms with castle symbolism give the parade its unique character.

Float Construction Through Club Work

The floats are built over months of volunteer work by club members. Themes are set in autumn, wooden frames are constructed, papier-mâché figures are shaped, and floats are decorated with crepe paper. Local political allusions, regional topics, and supra-regional events are satirically addressed.

After the Parade

After the parade, the carnival community moves to the festival hall, the multi-purpose hall, or the village inns. Refreshments, live music, and dancing continue into the late evening, marking the end of the carnival festivities. Eifel specialties and drinks are offered at fair prices.

Eifel Carnival Tradition

The Rittersdorf Carnival is a prime example of Eifel Fastnacht (carnival) tradition: down-to-earth, club-driven, in dialect, and with close ties to neighboring towns. A living culture that shapes village life throughout the winter months.
