Maritime folk anthems in front of the Imperial Palace
In just a few years, Santiano has established its own genre: folk rock with a maritime imagery, combining the tradition of sea shanties with modern rock arrangements. The band members bring experience from folk, rock, and Schlager, combining multi-part vocals, accordion, violin, and guitars into a highly dynamic live program. The concert in Goslar is part of the band's open-air tour and uses the large forecourt of the Imperial Palace as its stage.
The Goslar Imperial Palace was built in the 11th century as a royal residence of the Holy Roman Empire and is now considered one of the most important secular Romanesque buildings. With its mighty sandstone walls, the two-nave hall, and the adjoining monastery church, it forms a backdrop of international significance. As the sun sets behind the Rammelsberg, the tour's lighting design takes over the staging of the facade.
The concert is part of the 24th International Music Festival Goslar-Harz, the largest classical and jazz festival in southern Lower Saxony. Within the festival, the Kaiserpfalz Open Airs represent the bridge between classical concert tradition and popular music. The 2026 program also includes a jazzy performance by Till Brönner and a pop homage by Forced to Mode as further highlights of the Kaiserpfalz program.
With its old town, the Rammelsberg Mine, the Imperial Palace, and the Upper Harz Water Management System, Goslar boasts four UNESCO World Heritage sites in close proximity. For concert-goers, it's an opportunity to plan a compact cultural short trip, combining the concert, a city tour, and the World Heritage sites.
Santiano concerts follow their own dramaturgy: singalong choruses, anthemic choreography, and a constant play with the band's maritime imagery. In Goslar, this concept meets the sandstone backdrop of the palace, creating an unusual image where Atlantic romance and Romanesque architecture stand side by side.
The palace forecourt will be equipped for the concert with a large main stage, tiered seating, and standing room areas. Its connection to Goslar's old town allows for walking access to and from the train station or the city center's parking garages.
On Friday, August 21, Forced to Mode already opened the Kaiserpfalz Open Airs 2026 with a Depeche Mode homage. Both evenings can be booked independently.
The detailed setlist will be communicated by Santiano shortly before the concert. Based on experience, the program lasts about two hours and combines hits from all albums with current songs from the latest tour.
Hotels and holiday apartments in Goslar and the Harz foothills. Early booking is recommended due to the double open-air event on the weekend.
