Season Opening in Töwerland
The Maizeit-Konzerte mark the start of the musical season on Juist. While the year-round Töwerland concert series really picks up speed in June, the Maizeit offers an intensive opening phase in the "month of joy": eight days full of concerts, often several per day, with a program that anticipates the full spectrum of the later summer series.
2026 Program – Confirmed Artists
Three concerts are already officially confirmed for 2026:
- Andy Siefkes – May 20, 2026. The singer-songwriter from the East Frisia region opens the Maizeit with a personal set of his own compositions, occasional Low German songs, and a selection of cover versions.
- Stilbruch – May 22, 2026. The East Frisian cover and party band, known in the region as a reliable mood-maker, delivers an evening-long sing-along and dance performance.
- Juister Shanty Chor – May 27, 2026. The island choir closes the Maizeit with traditional sea shanties, Low German folklore, and a maritime atmosphere that would be unthinkable without shanty singing.
Further concerts will be announced gradually by the Juist spa administration. Experience shows that the program includes between 12 and 18 individual concerts over eight days.
Venues
The Maizeit utilizes the established island concert venues: the central Kurplatz with a covered stage for open-air concerts, the Haus des Kurgastes for concerts in case of bad weather or for higher acoustic demands, occasionally the historic island church for classical programs, and the beach tent area for special concerts by the sea.
Atmosphere
The Maizeit is experienced on Juist as a true island opening. After the quiet winter and pre-season weeks, larger groups of guests arrive for the first time, restaurants open their terraces, beach chairs are unpacked – and music can be heard everywhere. Especially the open-air concerts at the Kurplatz, often in the mild May sunshine, create an atmosphere that many regular island guests describe as "coming home".
