Four weeks of daily programming in front of the Stiftskirche and at Schillerplatz – free city festival for the 750th anniversary
In 2026, Kaiserslautern is celebrating the 750th anniversary of its town charter, first documented in 1276. This occasion calls for an entire jubilee year filled with numerous ceremonies, exhibitions, concert series, and community projects. In late summer and early autumn, the Jubilee Stage will serve as the main public meeting point: over four weeks of varied programming at two of the city's central squares will make the anniversary visible and tangible for the entire population.
From Friday, August 14 to Wednesday, September 2, the program will unfold in front of the Stiftskirche, the city's oldest church and a defining architectural landmark. Daily programs will cover a broad spectrum: classical concerts and sacred music will utilize the acoustics near the church, pop and rock concerts will attract large audiences on weekends, and children's and family formats will take place in the afternoons. Civic formats – discussions, lectures, participation events on the city's history – will also have their place.
After a brief transition break, the stage will move to Schillerplatz from September 7 to 10, a location more central to the city's heart. Here, four days of particularly dense programming will culminate the anniversary celebrations in the city center. The exact program will be published by the city in the summer of 2026.
All events on the Jubilee Stage are free of charge. The city views this format as a gift to its citizens and visitors from the region. The program is financed by the city's jubilee budget, as well as grants from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, third-party funds, and sponsor contributions. Thousands of visitors are expected over the four weeks, with peak attendance on weekends.
