Traditional Volksfest in Jerxheim (Heeseberg municipality) — 64th edition in the 3rd week of June 2026 with parade and fireworks
Jerxheim is located in the southern Helmstedt district near the border with Saxony-Anhalt and is a member municipality and seat of the Heeseberg municipality. The Heeseberg, a wooded elevation in the Großen Bruch, shapes the landscape. Jerxheim itself is rural and has a vibrant community life.
With the 64th edition in 2026, the Jerxheim Volksfest looks back on over six decades of tradition. What began as a community festival in 1963 has developed into the largest Volksfest in the municipality and attracts several thousand visitors annually from the Helmstedt region and neighboring Saxony-Anhalt.
The Volksfest traditionally takes place in the 3rd week of June. This timing has grown over generations and is firmly anchored in the region's calendar. Competing dates within the municipality are deliberately avoided.
The grand parade through the village is the visual highlight of the Volksfest. Floats, marksmen's associations, marching bands, music groups, the fire brigade, friendly associations, and theme-related floats move through the decorated Jerxheim. Residents decorate houses and front gardens.
The grand finale of the festival day is a large fireworks display that rises over Jerxheim from the Schützenplatz. Few village festivals in the region can afford fireworks of this magnitude — the emotional impact is correspondingly high.
The festival grounds offer everything that belongs to a large Volksfest: a marquee with evening dance and live music programs, a carousel and rides for children and young people, snack stands, beer tents, candy stalls, lottery stands.
The Jerxheim Volksfest focuses on its own motto every year. In 2025, it was "Jerxheim by the Sea — Pirate Party" with corresponding decorations, costumes, and themed program items. The motto for 2026 will be published by the organizing committee in the spring.
The exact date in the 3rd week of June, the annual theme, the band lineup, and the parade route for 2026 will be published shortly by the Jerxheim Event Association on jerxheim.orts.app. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
