Summer Thursday concert series in the medieval Brunnenhof next to the Porta Nigra
The "Jazz im Brunnenhof" series owes its special charm to its venue. The Brunnenhof, formerly the utility courtyard of the Simeonstift, forms a completely enclosed courtyard between the Simeonstift City Museum and the Porta Nigra. High sandstone walls, a central fountain, and the Mediterranean character under the open summer sky create acoustics and an atmosphere that can compete with classic jazz clubs. The seating capacity is deliberately kept manageable to maintain the intimate club atmosphere.
Programmatically, the series pursues an ambitious approach: established German jazz greats alternate with international guests and newcomers each season. Jazz-Club Trier e.V., as the curating partner, guarantees a well-thought-out program line that goes beyond pure entertainment music and also allows for more experimental styles. The highlight of each edition is the presentation of the JTI Trier Jazz Award, with which the City of Trier honors outstanding personalities of the European jazz scene.
The series is closely integrated with the overarching Mosel Musikfestival: concerts in the Brunnenhof have been part of the festival's official program for several years, which plays venues along the entire Mosel from July to October.
In the "40 Years of UNESCO World Heritage Trier" anniversary year, Jazz im Brunnenhof gains additional significance. The venue is located directly next to the Porta Nigra, one of the central World Heritage sites. A program is expected that thematically links the historical architecture with contemporary improvisational music. The presentation of the JTI Trier Jazz Award on August 9, 2026, is among the most prestigious awards in the German jazz scene and is integrated into the overarching Mosel Musikfestival.
