Whitsun Sunday Jazz on the Weserdeich for three decades
The Jazz-Frühschoppen at the Juliusplate campsite is an institution. What began around 30 years ago as a small concert for campers has developed into a popular Whitsun meeting point for the entire southern Wesermarsch. The campsite is located directly on the Weserdeich between Berne and Lemwerder – a location that gives the Frühschoppen a special atmosphere. While the bands play, freighters and pleasure boats pass by on the Weser, and the view extends to the opposite bank.
The musical spectrum ranges from classic New Orleans Jazz and Dixieland to swing and more modern styles. The focus is on handmade live music in the morning light. Guests sit at beer tables or bring their own folding chairs and blankets. Bratwurst, coffee and cake, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks are available on site. The Frühschoppen tradition shapes the character: it's about sociability, music, and good Whitsun weather, not about show or spectacle.
The Frühschoppen is explicitly family-friendly. Children can move freely around the spacious campsite, which is located directly on the dike. Walks on the Weserdeich are part of the Whitsun program for many guests. The concert is part of the season opening of the Juliusplate campsite, which offers a series of other events every year – from the summer festival and the Ackeroldies tractor meeting to spontaneous open-mic nights.
The Juliusplate campsite is located on the Weserdeich between Berne and Lemwerder. Travel from Bremen via the B 75/L 875 towards Lemwerder/Berne. Parking is available directly at the campsite. A bike tour along the Weserradweg (Weser Cycle Path) is a particularly beautiful alternative.
The Frühschoppen takes place outdoors; seating is partially available. Blankets or folding chairs can be brought along. In case of rain, there is a covered area.
Bratwurst, fries, coffee, cake, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks are offered by the campsite. Bringing your own food is not permitted in the catering area.
