The 26th edition of the Japan Film Festival Hamburg 2025 showcased the spectrum of contemporary Japanese cinema for five days at Metropolis, Studio Kino, and 3001 Kino. The Naginata, Noh/Arthouse, and Rakugo sections once again defined the program.

JFFH 2025 – Retrospective

In 2025, the Japan Film Festival Hamburg once again attracted an international audience to Hamburg's arthouse cinemas. Over sixty films from Japan, Japanese guests in attendance, and audience discussions were at the center of the event. The distribution across Metropolis (Neustadt), Studio Kino (Altona), and 3001 Kino (Schanzenviertel) gives the festival its typical Hamburg character: three very different arthouse venues jointly host the festival, each with its own charm. The organizer since 1999 has been the voluntarily run association Nihon Media e.V.
