One of Europe's oldest folk tours stops in Kaiserslautern's Kammgarn
Founded in 1974, the Irish Folk Festival is one of Europe's oldest continuously running folk festivals. Unlike location-based festivals, this format tours through numerous European cities, bringing Irish music to concert halls, clubs, and theaters that would rarely have access to the folk tradition otherwise. The 2026 tour reaches Kaiserslautern on Tuesday, November 3, with a concert at the Kammgarn casino.
The casino, one of the two concert spaces at the Kammgarn complex, offers the ideal setting for a folk concert with theater seating, thanks to its manageable size and refined atmosphere. Unlike summer open-air festivals, the Irish Folk Festival focuses on a concentrated concert experience that suits the intricate instrumentation of Irish folk bands.
Each festival day features several acts on stage. Typically, three to four bands or solo artists are programmed in a curated order, with transitions between sets where the artists often play together. This results in a multi-hour concert evening that showcases the full spectrum of contemporary Irish Folk: from traditional reels and jigs to folk songs and ballads, and modern crossover pieces with elements of rock, pop, or world music.
The Irish folk scene has been one of the most vibrant in Europe for decades. Unlike some folk traditions primarily maintained by older generations, Ireland sees continuous renewal through young musicians who write new pieces and reinterpret classics using traditional instruments (fiddle, tin whistle, uilleann pipes, bodhrán, acoustic guitar, bouzouki). The Irish Folk Festival presents this lively scene, offering audiences current insights annually. The exact lineup for the 2026 tour will be published before the concert.
