Nine days of free city festival on Parkinsel with world music, climate concerts, children's program, and art installations
The Parkinsel is a peninsula located in southern Ludwigshafen, situated between arms of the Rhine River, and is almost entirely occupied by the city park. With its old trees, Rhine views, and tranquil setting, it offers an extraordinary natural backdrop for a city festival. It is precisely this atmosphere that makes the Inselsommer one of the special festivals in the Vorderpfalz region.
The festival is consistently designed to be free of charge and multidisciplinary. Over the nine festival days, concerts, theater performances, readings, workshops, film screenings, and art installations are spread across the entire grounds. An open festival stage, smaller open-air spots, a film screen, and children's areas ensure that there is something for every audience.
Confirmed acts include:
Beyond the musical highlights, Inselsommer offers theater at blue hour, children's book readings, film nights under the open sky, and art installations that expand the festival grounds. This makes Inselsommer more than just a concert festival: it sees itself as a holistic summer cultural experience for families, young adults, and all generations.
Like many other major summer festivals in the state, Inselsommer benefits from the support of Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz, which advocates for the diversity and accessibility of cultural events statewide. This funding is an important factor in ensuring that admission can remain free throughout.
Detailed program and set times can be viewed at inselsommer.eu and ludwigshafen-wow.de. The festival is organized as part of Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz 2026 under the state motto "The Roaring Twenties," without altering the genre-specific profile of Inselsommer.
