Honey Day in Dahn with Beekeepers Association Dahnertal and OGV – Sales, Apiculture, and Family Program
The Dahnertal Beekeepers Association is one of the active beekeeping associations in the Südwestpfalz region. Its members manage the bee colonies of the Dahner Felsenland – a region whose natural forests, scattered orchards, and flower-rich roadsides offer excellent nectar flow conditions. Honey from the Dahnertal enjoys a good regional reputation, and the Honey Festival is the stage where beekeepers can present their work.
Bees produce very different honeys throughout the season, depending on which flowers are blooming. Early bloom honey (often rapeseed and fruit blossom), summer blossom honey (various wildflowers), chestnut honey (strong, dark, with a characteristic note), and forest honey (from honeydew, almost black, rich in minerals) – the range that beekeepers present at the Honey Festival is a small taste journey through the beekeeping year. In addition, there are beeswax candles, mead, honey liqueur, propolis drops, and other bee products.
The Honey Festival is also an educational event. Display hives with live bee colonies make the inside of the beehive observable, and beekeepers answer questions about beekeeping, honey production, and the ecological importance of bees. For children, there are craft activities related to bee life, beeswax candle rolling, and honey tastings.
The Dahn Fruit and Garden Association is a cooperation partner. Fruit cultivation and beekeeping are closely linked ecologically: no fruit pollination without bees, no diverse pollen and nectar supply without scattered orchards. This symbiosis is made visible at the Honey Festival.
Admission to the Honey Festival is free. Purchasing here supports local volunteer beekeeping – an important contribution to the region's biodiversity.
The festival is organized by the Dahnertal Beekeepers Association in cooperation with the OGV Dahn. Current program details are available at imkerverein-dahnertal.de and dahn-veranstaltungen.de.
