Overview

The Historical Market Spectacle Bärnau takes place every two years. In 2025, as is typical for a biennial festival, there was no edition; the last preceding edition on June 15 and 16, 2024, with around 7,500 visitors, was celebrated as "very successful," and the next one follows in 2026.

Since the Market Spectacle only takes place every two years, there was no edition in 2025. The edition of June 15 and 16, 2024, was significant: thousands of visitors — around 7,500 over the two days — experienced the old town of Bärnau transformed into a medieval market with a large knight's camp at the Bärnau-Tachov History Park. The highlight was the grand procession through the old town with all knight groups, costumed participants, jesters, and music ensembles, plus a fire show on Saturday evening in the market square. Music was provided by groups from Germany, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, including "The KingsPipers" from Berlin, as well as acrobats, combat troops, and "Gaukler Sepp." Culinary offerings included kettle meat, gyros, bratwurst, and game goulash, as well as mead, beer, and wine. The organizers considered the edition a great success.
