Overview

In 2025, Wartburg Castle once again opened its gates on the four Advent weekends for the historic Christmas market. Thousands of visitors from Thuringia, Hesse, and all over Germany took advantage of the Advent season to experience medieval craftsmanship in the snow-covered castle courtyards and take a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

The 2025 edition continued the proven concept: candle makers, glassblowers, soap boilers, pewter casters, and costume designers presented medieval crafts in the historic castle courtyards. Travelling minstrels with hurdy-gurdies and shawms provided an authentic soundscape. The castle tour, including Luther's Study and the Palas, attracted numerous visitors again, especially on the third Advent weekend.

The market once again demonstrated its special quality: while other Christmas markets in the country are characterized by mass tourism and commercial stalls, Wartburg Castle remains a refuge for lovers of quiet, atmospheric Advent experiences.
