Autumn market and fair in downtown Bad Bergzabern to conclude the grape harvest at the transition between October and November
Launched in 2019, HerbstRausch in Bad Bergzabern has quickly become a fixed date in the event calendar of the Bergzaberner Land region. The town, located at the southern gateway to the German Wine Route, combines two traditions with this festival: the classic autumn and weekly market and a small fairground with carousels and rides for families.
The primary venue is the centrally located Schlossparkplatz, not far from Schloss Bad Bergzabern, supplemented by stalls and activities in the adjacent Königstraße and the city center. Regional producers present their autumn harvest – apples, pears, pumpkins, grapes, quinces, honey, game products, and Palatinate sausages. In addition, there are stalls offering Federweißer and young wine from the Bad Bergzabern wineries, as well as culinary delights like onion cake, Flammkuchen, and roasted chestnuts.
The timing is deliberately set after the grape harvest, marking the transition from the main wine year season to the quieter pre-Christmas period. For the town and its associations, HerbstRausch is a welcome opportunity to attract visitors from the region and day-trippers to downtown Bad Bergzabern, while tourism businesses utilize the last weeks of the main season for overnight stays.
With small rides, food stalls, and hands-on activities, HerbstRausch is explicitly designed for families. Its manageable size, short distances, and central location in Bad Bergzabern's old town make the festival a relaxed destination for a stroll over several days.
The official announcement from the city of Bad Bergzabern confirms HerbstRausch 2026 as a recurring event. Due to its timing at the end of the grape harvest, the exact festival days will be determined in coordination with local wineries and associations; typically, the festival spans an extended weekend from Friday to Monday (or Thursday to Sunday) at the end of October.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years, combining market days, Federweißer service, Palatinate gastronomy, and a moderate range of fairground rides.
