Overview
The 2025 Autumn and Slaughter Festival continued the long-standing tradition. Over a weekend at the end of October, the Black Forest Open Air Museum Vogtsbauernhof opened its six historic farmhouses for authentic Harvest Thanksgiving and slaughtering customs. Craftsmen demonstrated glass engraving, straw shoemaking, and blacksmithing at the historic workbenches – techniques that were practiced in the Black Forest farmhouses well into the 20th century.
The farm pork scratchings were the culinary highlight, complemented by sauerkraut demonstrations, smoked sausage demonstrations, and turnip ghost carving for the children. The festival was once again among the museum's most visited autumn events and marked the start of the autumn holiday program – a sensory Harvest Thanksgiving celebration with a distinctly regional Black Forest identity.
