HeimatGenuss — Gourmet and Culture at the Heimathaus
The HeimatGenuss festival in Rotenburg (Wümme) is more than just a market — it's a community project that combines regional craft and culinary traditions with social commitment. Organizer Jugendhilfe ROW is a social organization that has established the festival as a volunteer-driven project. In 2026, HeimatGenuss celebrates its 5th edition on August 22nd and 23rd at the Heimathaus Rotenburg — a remarkable success story for a non-profit festival culture.
Regional Producers in Focus
The focus is on regional producers — beekeepers, cheese makers, distillers, sausage makers, bakers, brewers, nurseries, and artisans from the Rotenburg district and the surrounding North German region. They present their products at their stands, offer insights into their production methods, and are available for conversations. This direct interaction between producer and consumer is a central goal of the format — it fosters appreciation for regional economic cycles and raises awareness of the quality of North German products.
Live Music and Gastronomy
The market activities are accompanied by live music. Regional and national acts perform on a stage — from acoustic singer-songwriter formations and cover bands to folk and jazz ensembles. Gastronomic stands offer regional specialties, vegetarian and vegan options, coffee and cake, as well as drinks. Families will find hands-on stations and small children's activities, making the festival attractive for younger visitors too.
Overlap with Völlig Losgelöst
A programmatic highlight is the overlap with the Völlig Losgelöst Festival, also organized by Jugendhilfe ROW. While HeimatGenuss runs on August 22nd and 23rd, Völlig Losgelöst takes place on August 21st and 22nd — on August 22nd, both festivals overlap at the same location. This combination creates an unusual weekend experience where market visitors can simultaneously be festival-goers and vice versa. Together, both festivals make the August weekend in Rotenburg a special cultural highlight.
