Hanseatic Harbour Festival with Event Character
HANSE AHOI is Buxtehude's major maritime harbour festival. Unlike traditional city centre festivals, it focuses on Buxtehude Harbour and emphasizes the maritime, Hanseatic tradition of this former Hanseatic League member city. The festival mile, stages, and play areas extend along the harbour basin, using the maritime backdrop for staging.
Spectacular Pirate Show
A highlight of the festival is the pirate show at the harbour basin. Historical reenactment groups, stunt acrobats, and show performers stage pirate attacks, sword fighting scenes, and ship boarding manoeuvres. The show is aimed at the whole family and conveys aspects of maritime history through theatrical staging.
Family Activities
Numerous activities are planned for the whole family: hands-on workshops for children, craft activities with maritime themes, small games at the harbour basin, face painting stations, puppet and Punch and Judy shows, and movement activities. The family program attracts a large audience, especially on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Buxtehude's Biggest Beach Party
As dusk falls, a designated area of the harbour transforms into Buxtehude's biggest beach party. Sandy beach, loungers, a cocktail bar, DJ set, and maritime lighting create a lively atmosphere late into the night. This format particularly appeals to young adults and complements the daytime family program.
