Overview

In May 2025, Chemnitz's Sonnenberg district once again transformed into a decentralised cultural festival for an afternoon. Over 30 participants opened their spaces — studios, associations, initiatives, cafés. The «Flowers Instead of Concrete» procession and the programme between 2 PM and 6 PM made the festival the liveliest day on the district calendar.

The 9th edition in 2025 confirmed the decentralised concept and grew in both the number of venues and visitors. The Sonnenberg Neighbourhood Initiative and over 30 local participants organised the festival on a voluntary basis.

The concept «Concerts, DIY Chocolate, and Prehistoric Treasures» — as described by the local press in 2025 — captures the typical mix of «Hang zur Kultur» well: high culture and subculture, family programmes and adult programmes, content work and enjoyment. The 10th edition in 2026 will celebrate an anniversary.
