Hallo Fahrrad is the official season opening for the Oldenburg Bicycle City — one of Germany's most important cycling cities. In spring, the city, together with associations, dealers, and initiatives, invites you to a day that celebrates the bicycle in all its diversity.
Rathausmarkt and Schlossplatz as Festival Areas
The central city squares are used car-free for the action day. Around 50 exhibitor stands will showcase offerings from bicycle dealers, manufacturers, workshops, insurance companies, clubs, and initiatives. The range is broad, from classic trekking bikes to the latest pedelecs, from cargo bikes to touring bikes.
ADFC Bike Tours
The General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) offers three guided bike tours — at 12 PM, 1 PM, and 3 PM. The tours explore routes in and around Oldenburg and are designed to be family-friendly. Pre-registration is usually not necessary.
Test Track in the Castle Courtyard
A test track will be set up in the castle courtyard where visitors can try out bikes of different brands and types. Pedelecs, e-bikes, cargo bikes, and special bikes are the focus.
Bicycle Coding
The police and the ADFC offer bicycle coding. An individual identification number is engraved into the frame, which makes it easier to identify the owner in case of theft. Those who want their bike coded should bring proof of ownership (purchase receipt).
Bicycle Auction at 2:30 PM
The highlight is the bicycle auction at 2:30 PM. Here, lost and found bicycles that have not been claimed at the lost and found office beyond the deadline are publicly auctioned — an opportunity to get a bike cheaply, with the familiar auction dramaturgy.
Sunday with Open Shops
The action day coincides with a Sunday with open shops in the Oldenburg city center — so a visit can be easily combined with a stroll through the city.
