Ceramics from all over Germany on the Historic Market Square
The Greifswald Pottery Market is one of the most important pottery and ceramics markets in Northeast Germany. It is organized by the pottery workshop Ines Malcher (»Topf und Ton«) from Ducherow. Every year at the end of May or the beginning of June, ceramists and potters from all over Germany fill the Historic Market Square in the center of Greifswald.
On around 40 to 50 stands, professional workshops showcase the full spectrum of ceramics: salt-glazed stoneware, fine porcelain, Japanese Raku ceramics, garden ceramics, tableware, sculptures, and art objects. An application phase with photo selection ensures the high quality level.
The market is accompanied by live music, a coffee bar, food trucks, and street food stalls. A special highlight for children is the pottery rally, where the little ones visit the stalls and solve small tasks related to pottery. A miniaturized pottery Ferris wheel is announced for 2026.
The Historic Market Square with its brick-gabled houses from the Hanseatic era provides the ideal backdrop. Greifswald is located on the Greifswalder Bodden and is the birthplace of Caspar David Friedrich – the connection between craftsmanship, tradition, and art shapes the cityscape and also this market.
For its 20th anniversary, the Greifswald Pottery Market returns to the Historic Market Square on the last weekend of May 2026. The organizer, as in previous years, is the pottery workshop Topf und Ton from Ducherow.
The application deadline for ceramists was January 31st, 2026. A professional pre-selection ensures the high quality level even for this milestone birthday. Around 40 to 50 professional pottery workshops from all over Germany are expected.
