Run along the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site across the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge
The Gorch-Fock-Run offers running experiences that are rarely found in this form. The route leads directly along the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site — one of Europe's most ecologically valuable landscapes. Those who run here experience not only kilometers and elevation gain but also the vastness of the Jade Bay, the smell of salt and algae, and the typical tranquility of the North German coastal landscape. The run is named after the Gorch Fock, the famous training ship of the German Navy, which is closely associated with Wilhelmshaven.
The range of distances is broad. Beginners or families can participate in the 5 kilometers. The 10 kilometers is the classic popular run distance. The half marathon (21.1 km) and the marathon (42.2 km) are for ambitious runners seeking a full-fledged competition in a unique setting. The school runs of 1.5 km give the youngest ones the opportunity to participate in a major run. The highlight of all routes is crossing the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge — the largest swing bridge in Europe, whose steel structure shapes the cityscape of Wilhelmshaven.
The starting point and central logistics hub is the Pumpwerk cultural center on Banter Deich. Registration is possible on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 1 PM at the Atlantic Hotel and on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 7 AM at the Pumpwerk. Professional timing ensures meaningful results. Refreshment stations along the route and at the finish area, medical support, and a motivated team of volunteers ensure a smooth process.
The 21st edition continues a successful running history. The Gorch-Fock-Run has become one of the most important running events on the Lower Saxony North Sea coast, attracting athletes from all over Germany every year.
The combination of sporting competition and unique maritime landscape makes the run a special experience. Those who have participated once often return.
