Kick-off of the Augsburg Volksfest season in the Göggingen district
Every year in March, the Gögginger Frühlingsfest ushers in the Volksfest season in Augsburg. Augsburg is a district-free city in Swabia, in the state of Bavaria; the festival takes place in the Göggingen district on the festival grounds on Pfarrer-Bogner-Straße. For years, the Frühlingsfest has been considered the opening of Augsburg's festival tradition and attracts numerous visitors.
The festival traditionally begins with the keg tapping ceremony by Lord Mayor Eva Weber in the Binswanger festival tent. With this ceremonial act, the city officially starts the new Volksfest season. The large festival tent forms the convivial center of the event.
The Gögginger Frühlingsfest is decidedly family-friendly. The offerings include a children's carousel, bumper cars, grabber machines, a lottery stall, and a candy stand, as well as numerous food stalls around the large festival tent. The organizers emphasize safety and a welcoming atmosphere for all age groups, supported by security services and youth protection measures.
With tradition, fun, and culinary delights, the festival welcomes spring to the region. As the first Volksfest of the year, it holds a special significance for many Augsburg residents and marks the beginning of the warm festival season in Swabia.
The 2026 edition of the Gögginger Frühlingsfest lasts for ten days.
