Traditional May festival of the volunteer fire brigade in the Hof district
The Frühlingsfest (Spring Festival) of the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Döhlau (Döhlau Volunteer Fire Brigade) is the traditional spring event of the brigade in the Upper Franconian municipality of Döhlau (Hof district, Bavaria). The festival is held at the Döhlau fire station over a weekend in May – a format that is typical in the Hof region and takes place in almost every municipality with its own fire brigade.
Firefighting in the municipality of Döhlau is handled by three volunteer fire brigades: FFW Döhlau, FFW Tauperlitz, and FFW Kautendorf. Each of these brigades has its own club festivals, which are spread throughout the year: May festival in Kautendorf (May 1st), Spring Festival in Döhlau (May), Garden festival in Tauperlitz (August), and other events. The Spring Festival in Döhlau is the first major club event of the municipality in the festival calendar.
As is customary with fire brigade festivals in Upper Franconia, the Spring Festival is about refreshments with bratwurst, beer, and home-style cooking, along with live music and a convivial atmosphere in the festival tent at the fire station. The exact musical and gastronomic content varies from year to year; the FFW Döhlau usually publishes the current program shortly before the festival on its own website and via Facebook.
Döhlau is located in the Upper Franconian district of Hof, directly on the city border of Hof in Bavaria. The Spring Festival, alongside the Hof Volksfest and events in neighboring municipalities, is a typical date for visitors from the region.
The Freiwillige Feuerwehr Döhlau has scheduled its Spring Festival for the weekend of May 14 to 16, 2026, at the fire station. The date is listed in the official municipal calendar of Döhlau and complements the May festival of the FFW Kautendorf on May 1st, as well as other club dates in the municipality.
The format follows the proven spring tradition: festival operations in and around the fire station, refreshments with food and drinks, accompanied by music. The FFW Döhlau will announce the final daily program for each festival day via its club page and Facebook shortly before the event weekend.
The complete program for each festival day will be published by the FFW Döhlau, as experience shows, shortly before the festival weekend. As of Spring 2026, the following program elements are fixed:
