51st Strohhutfest — largest street festival in the Palatinate and Germany's oldest straw hat festival since 1973
The 51st Frankenthaler Strohhutfest from June 4th to 7th, 2026, is the largest street festival in the Palatinate and Germany's oldest straw hat festival — a tradition since 1973. For four days, Frankenthal's city center transforms into a huge festival mile with 6 stages, approx. 50 bands and artists, and over 100 stalls and tents. Expected visitor numbers: around 250,000. The festival grounds stretch from Rathausplatz with the RPR1.Bühne to Speyerer Tor with the MEXIA-Bühne, Erkenbertruine, TIF, and Gleis4 / VVR Bank Bühne.
The Strohhutfest will be opened on Thursday, June 2nd, at 2 PM with the farewell of Miss Strohhut Larissa Kießling and the proclamation of the new Miss Strohhut 2026/2027. Headliners on the RPR1-Bühne: NOISIC, Fine R.I.P., N*COGNITO, Acoustic Vibration.
The Frankenthaler Strohhutfest was launched in 1973, making it Germany's oldest straw hat festival. Over the decades, it has grown into the largest and most significant street festival event in the Palatinate — a brand that is associated with Frankenthal far beyond the city limits. The straw hat as a symbol is ubiquitous: visitors wear it as a festival emblem, the annual Strohhutfest button becomes a collector's item, and the Strohhutfest logo is known throughout the Palatinate region.
The sheer size of the festival is impressive: over the four festival days, around 50 bands and artists perform on 6 stages. The RPR1.Bühne at Rathausplatz is the main stage with major live acts. The MEXIA-Bühne at Speyerer Tor, the Gleis4 / VVR Bank Bühne, the stage at Erkenbertruine, and the TIF-Bühne complement the offerings. Each stage has its own musical focus — from rock and pop to Schlager and cover bands, acoustic live sets, and indie.
The headliners on the RPR1.Bühne in 2026 are: Thursday NOISIC, Friday Fine R.I.P., Saturday N*COGNITO, Sunday Acoustic Vibration. Numerous other bands from the Palatinate and Southern German music scene will also perform.
More than 100 stalls and tents line the festival mile: catering stands with bratwurst, steaks, fries, crêpes, sweets, and of course Palatinate specialties like Saumagen and wine; clubs and businesses with information booths; festival tents with live music and dance floors; showmen with carousels and game stalls.
The festival runs from Thursday to Saturday from 11:00 AM to midnight, and on Sunday from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Around 250,000 visitors are expected — a gigantic number that makes Frankenthal one of the liveliest cities in the region during this time.
The festival program is accompanied by the Strohhutfest Run on Sunday morning (Bambinis 10:00 AM, Children 10:30 AM, Adults 11:00 AM) and the daily Children's Strohhutfest between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
A special tradition is the Miss Strohhut election. At the opening on Thursday, June 2nd, at 2 PM, the outgoing Miss Strohhut Larissa Kießling says goodbye, and the new Miss Strohhut 2026/2027 is proclaimed.
