Summer wine festival in Forst along the village street with top Rieslings from Ungeheuer, Kirchenstück, Jesuitengarten, and Pechstein
Forst is small. In fact, the entire village fits into a square of a few hundred meters per side — yet it is home to some of the most famous vineyards in the world. When the Forst vintners invite you to the Weinkerwe in midsummer, not only the region but also the international Riesling scene comes: wine merchants from Berlin and Hamburg, sommeliers from Frankfurt and Munich, enthusiasts from the USA and Scandinavia. Unusual for a village wine festival — but Forst is no ordinary village.
The central village street is closed for the duration of the Kerwe and transformed into a gourmet mile. Several festival stands — wine stands of the individual Forst wineries — line up, interspersed with food stalls, stages, a carousel, and game stalls. The atmosphere is significantly more relaxed and closer to a folk festival than at prestigious spring tastings like LagenKOSTbar — and that's precisely its charm: top Rieslings in a casual Kerwe atmosphere.
At the stands, the wineries serve wines from the most characteristic Forst vineyards: Ungeheuer (powerful marl-limestone Riesling), Kirchenstück (elegant, sandstone-influenced), Jesuitengarten (fresh, fruity), Pechstein (mineral, profound, basalt-influenced). A glass of wine at the Kerwe costs only a fraction of what the same wine costs in a Berlin Michelin-starred restaurant — a rare opportunity to enjoy German wine history at a folk festival price.
To kick things off on Friday evening, the special tasting LagenKostBar goes Kerwe takes place in Gutshof Murjahn: a curated Riesling tasting with eleven wines from all Forst vintners plus a welcome sparkling wine. Tickets are limited and cost 25 euros per person — a must-attend event for serious Riesling lovers.
