11th edition of the Hinterweidenthal Fire Brigade Festival – two days of festivities with barrel tapping at 4 PM on Saturday
The Hinterweidenthal Fire Brigade Festival is one of the most important events organized by the local Hinterweidenthal Volunteer Fire Brigade. With its 11th edition in 2026, the festival has established itself as a fixed date in the village calendar.
As in many smaller Palatinate communities, the Volunteer Fire Brigade is not only a safety organization but also a central pillar of village life. It organizes festivals, supports social events, and invests festival proceeds in equipment, training, and youth work. The Fire Brigade Festival is the brigade's largest self-organized event and, at the same time, an important source of income.
The symbolic start is the barrel tapping on Saturday at 4 PM. Afterwards, the festivities continue with catering, live music or a DJ evening, and social gatherings until late at night. On Sunday, the traditional morning pint with musical accompaniment follows, a family afternoon with a program for children, and a cozy end to the festival in the late afternoon or early evening.
Classic Palatinate specialties dominate the menu: Saumagen (pig's stomach stuffed with pork, bacon, and potatoes), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Pfälzer Bratwurst (Palatinate sausage), Flammkuchen (a type of flatbread), accompanied by Palatinate wine, beer from regional breweries, and coffee specialties. Catering is provided by active firefighters and village helpers.
Hinterweidenthal, with just under 1,350 inhabitants, is located in the southern Palatinate Forest and belongs to the Hauenstein collective municipality. The village is primarily known for the Teufelstisch (Devil's Table), a striking mushroom-shaped rock formation and one of the most famous natural monuments in the Palatinate. The village is characterized by tourism and is also supported by an active club structure, in which the fire brigade plays a central role.
The 11th edition continues the proven concept of the Fire Brigade Festival. The exact program for 2026 (live acts, catering, family program) will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure follows the established cornerstones of previous years.
