For years, the Fastnachtsmarkt Frankenthal has complemented the big Frankenthal Fastnacht parade, using the Rathausplatz as the central supply and meeting point for the carnival day. The event is organized by the city of Frankenthal in cooperation with the Frankenthaler Carneval Verein von 1820 (FCV).
Timing
The Fastnacht parade traditionally starts on Fastnachtssamstag (Carnival Saturday) at 1:11 PM in the city center and proceeds through the main streets of Frankenthal. The Fastnachtsmarkt opens its stalls as early as 11:11 AM, allowing visitors to grab a snack and a hot drink before the parade. After the parade, the market becomes the main meeting point for the street carnival, buzzing with activity into the evening.
Stalls and Offers
On the Rathausplatz, various offerings are gathered in a closed arrangement of huts and pavilions: Bratwurst, fries, crêpes, meatballs, mulled wine, punch, cocktails, sweets, carnival items, makeup, wigs, plush toys for children. Local clubs, restaurateurs, and showmen operate the stalls.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere is exuberant, costumed, and musically driven. A small stage is often set up on the Rathausplatz, featuring local carnival bands or DJ sets. The Frankenthal police and security services manage traffic flow around the market.
