19th City Festival with French Market at Klosterplatz and Stage Program at Alter Markt
The Euskirchener Stadtfest is the big spring festival of the Eifel town of Euskirchen. In 2026, the 19th edition will be celebrated on April 25th and 26th — organized by z.eu.s e.V., the advertising and interest group of the Euskirchen city center.
A traditional highlight of the city festival is the French Market at Klosterplatz — French direct marketers from Burgundy, Provence, and Northern France present their specialties: cheese, cured meats, olive oils, lavender products, saucissons, and wine. The stalls are set up in real market tents, creating the flair of a French Marché du Village — a connection that makes historical sense, as Euskirchen is located in a linguistic area at the transition from the Rhineland to Lorraine-Alsatian influences.
The main stage is traditionally located at Alter Markt in the city center. Over the weekend, there will be live bands, dance performances, show acts, and the annual program of the city's associations. The highlight on Sunday: Wibbelstetz performs at 3 PM — one of the most famous bands singing in Kölsch dialect.
On Sunday, April 26th, there is Sunday shopping: Shops in the Euskirchen city center are open from 1 PM to 6 PM. A conscious combination of city festival and city center shopping, strengthening the city center as a shopping destination.
The city festival is also deliberately aimed at families — activities for children, carousel stands, face painting, and a petting zoo (in past editions) are part of it. Klosterplatz and Alter Markt are pedestrian zones during this time and become pedestrian areas.
Euskirchen, with around 60,000 inhabitants, is the district town of Kreis Euskirchen (North Rhine-Westphalia) and is considered the "Gateway to the Eifel" — the city is located at the transition from the Cologne Bay to the Eifel highlands. Economically characterized by manufacturing and services, culturally deeply rooted in Rhenish traditions. The city festival is considered the most important inner-city event of the year.
Two days of city festival in Euskirchen. Klosterplatz and Alter Markt become pedestrian areas with market stalls and a stage.
