Traditional Harvest Festival of the Citizens' and Heritage Association in the Artists' Village Dötlingen
Dötlingen is located in the middle of the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park, a historically rural landscape. Agriculture, forestry, and rural culture shape the community to this day. The Erntedankfest picks up on this tradition and makes the end of the harvest period a shared occasion for the village community.
The focus of the festival is the harvest crown, the decoration of the village center with straw bales, pumpkins, and sheaves of grain, as well as the demonstration of historical agricultural equipment. Music groups from the region perform on stage. There is a special hands-on program for children with games, crafts, and face painting.
The gastronomic offer is deliberately regional: Harvest soup, hearty stews, pumpkin dishes, freshly baked bread from wood-fired ovens, cakes, apple cider, and beer from regional breweries are offered. Stalls with honey, jams, and seasonal produce are also part of the festival scene.
The Erntedankfest Dötlingen is part of a vibrant village calendar, organized by the Bürger- und Heimatverein throughout the year. It complements the Schützenfest in early summer, the GartenKultour, the Apfelmostfest in October, and the Christmas market at Tabkenhof, forming a dense network of volunteer-supported events that make Dötlingen known far beyond the municipal borders.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: Opening in the early afternoon with the ceremony around the harvest crown, followed by a diverse offering of music, children's program, culinary delights, and social gathering. The evening concludes with music and convivial get-together.
Updates and specific stage acts will be published on bhv-doetlingen.de.
