Traditional event in the Moscheltal valley with old crafts, fortified church tours, and family program on Whit Sunday
The Erlebnisreise Moscheltal is a traditional event held in the Moschel valley in the Donnersbergkreis district. The host location changes annually, allowing the event to move through the valley and highlight different villages. In 2026, Finkenbach-Gersweiler will host this Whit Sunday experience for the whole family.
On Sunday, May 24, 2026 (Whit Sunday), around 50 exhibitors will gather in the village center. Old crafts such as woodturning, blacksmithing, and other historical professions will be demonstrated. Tours of the fortified church at 1 PM and 3 PM, a storyteller for children, an open-air service at 10 AM, and the Odenbach music club offer a diverse program.
The Moscheltal is located in the Donnersbergkreis district and is a scenic and cultural gem of the Northern Palatinate region. The Moschel, a small stream, shapes the valley, whose villages preserve historical architecture, old fortified churches, and rural traditions. The Erlebnisreise Moscheltal is a joint event by the valley community, taking place in a different village each year.
The municipality of Finkenbach-Gersweiler in the Donnersbergkreis district will host the Erlebnisreise in 2026. The village has made special preparations for this occasion: The fortified church – one of the historical landmarks – will be made accessible, the village center will be enlivened with stalls, and local clubs, craftspeople, and artists will participate in the program.
A central element of the Erlebnisreise is the presentation of old crafts: Woodturners demonstrate their traditional craft on the lathe, blacksmiths showcase the forging of glowing metal pieces, and other craftspeople present arts and techniques that are in danger of being forgotten. These live demonstrations are a valuable cultural experience, especially for children and young people.
The Erlebnisreise is designed as a family event. The storyteller entertains the children, the fortified church tours impart history, the service at 10 AM opens the day, and the Odenbach music club provides a musical atmosphere. The valley community comes together, encounters between villages are fostered, and the rural culture of the Moscheltal is strengthened.
