Traditional Kirbe in the Vaihingen district of Enzweihingen
In Württemberg-Swabian dialect, the Kirbe (also Kirbevor or Kirchweih) is the Kirchweih festival — a traditional folk festival originally celebrated to mark the patron saint's day or the consecration of the church. Over the centuries, the Kirbe has evolved from a purely religious festival day into a secular village or district festival, with local associations, gastronomy, and family programs at its core. In Württemberg, there are Kirben in almost every village, each on a fixed date each year, often with its own traditions and customs.
The Enzweihinger Kirbe has a special date: it always takes place on the Saturday before Totensonntag — the last weekend of the church year. In 2026, Totensonntag falls on November 22nd, making the Kirbe on Saturday, November 21st, 2026. This late November date means the Enzweihinger Kirbe is a late Kirbe, one of the last of the Kirbe year in Württemberg — the Kirbe calendar begins in spring and ends with the late Kirben in November.
At the heart of the Enzweihinger Kirbe is the craft market in the town center, with stalls offering regional crafts, specialties, wool textiles, jewelry, and gift ideas for the upcoming Advent season. Simultaneously, there are programs organized by local associations around the Parkscheune and the Kirchplatz — the local associations (music association, sports club, Liederkranz choir, fire department, Landfrauen, church communities) run catering stands with Swabian specialties: Maultaschen, ham, bratwurst, potato salad, cake from the farmhouse kitchen, wine from the Stromberg region, beer on tap, and mulled wine for the cool late autumn.
Enzweihingen is one of the largest districts of Vaihingen an der Enz in the Ludwigsburg district. With its approximately 4,000 inhabitants, the district has retained its village identity and thrives on an active community of local associations. Vaihingen an der Enz itself (28,000 inhabitants) is located in the western Ludwigsburg district, nestled between Stromberg-Heuchelberg, the Enz valley, and Württemberg vineyards. Visitors to the Enzweihinger Kirbe can combine their visit with a stroll through the historic old town of Vaihingen or a wine hike on the Stromberg — especially in November, the vineyards glow in autumnal colors.
The Enzweihinger Kirbe will take place in 2026 on Saturday, November 21st — on the traditional date of "Saturday before Totensonntag." In 2026, Totensonntag falls on November 22nd, making the Kirbe on November 21st.
In the Vaihingen district of Enzweihingen, the program is spread throughout the day: a craft market in the town center, association stands around the Parkscheune and Kirchplatz, and Swabian catering with regional specialties. The detailed program will be published on vaihingen.de.
The complete 2026 program with all associations, catering stands, market stall distribution, and performance times will be published shortly before the festival date on the website of the City of Vaihingen and on vaihingen.events.
