Nationwide Day of Honour for the 77th Birthday of the Basic Law, held in Holzminden for the first time
In 2026, Germany's Basic Law turns 77. On this occasion, a nationwide Day of Engagement and Democratic Community has been established, which is filled each year by municipalities, associations, and initiatives with their own programs. In Holzminden, the Day of Honour 2026 will be celebrated for the first time and is closely linked to the simultaneously occurring Big Band Festival.
The focus is on the actors of voluntary work: associations, social initiatives, cultural organizations, sports groups, educational institutions, and companies that are socially engaged. They present their work, seek dialogue with citizens, recruit new volunteers, and make visible how much voluntary energy is present in a city like Holzminden.
The distribution of stands and stages in the market square, Obere Straße, Mittlere Straße, and Weserkai ensures that the Day of Honour revitalizes the entire city center. The parallel Big Band Festival creates musical reference points and ensures that the musical Pentecost program is also connected with the discussion of the Basic Law and voluntary work.
The Day of Honour transforms the city center into a large meeting space for one day. Strolling through the streets, you'll encounter the voluntary spirit of your city.
The detailed program for 2026 (participating associations, stage program, special activities) will be published by the City of Holzminden before the event. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of a community-supported city festival: Opening on the market square, continuous presence of associations and initiatives, alternating stage performances, integration with the Big Band program, and a joint conclusion in the late afternoon.
