Traditional Easter Egg Hunt for Children in the Zweibrücken Rose Garden on Holy Saturday
Just a few days after the official season opening on April 1st, the Zweibrücken Rose Garden transforms into a large scavenger hunt area on Holy Saturday. On Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 2 PM, the traditional Easter egg hunt begins, inviting families from Zweibrücken and the entire region. The young hunters will swarm across the area, exploring the still-young rose beds, the hedges at the entrance, the lawns around the café, and the Japanese garden to find the colorful eggs and small surprises hidden by the Easter Bunny.
The event is primarily aimed at preschool and primary school children, but older siblings and curious adults also enjoy participating in the treasure hunt. The hidden eggs are placed at varying difficulty levels, ensuring that even the youngest participants have a sense of accomplishment. In addition to chocolate eggs and brightly painted chicken eggs, the Rose Garden staff hide small toys, sticker books, and Easter surprises. Whoever finds an egg can keep it or share it with friends.
In early April, the Rose Garden enters its growth phase. The first tulips, daffodils, magnolias, and forsythias bloom, while the roses slowly awaken from their winter rest. The atmosphere is expectant and full of spring energy. Families can combine the Easter egg hunt with a relaxing stroll through the grounds and a stop at the Rosenstube café, which offers hot and cold drinks as well as cakes and light snacks. A visit to the nearby playground can also be easily combined.
For many years, the Easter egg hunt has been a fixed part of the Rose Garden's spring program and, alongside the season opening on April 1st, is one of the first public events of the new season. It joins a long line of family events that the Rose Garden hosts throughout the year, from picnic concerts and comedy nights to special garden workshops. Participation in the Easter egg hunt is free.
The event lasts about an hour, depending on the children's searching speed. Afterwards, families can explore the entire grounds of the Rose Garden, which is fully accessible after the season opening on April 1st. The first spring flowers are appearing, while the roses awaken from their winter rest.
The exact structure of the hunt will be determined by the Rose Garden shortly before the event and will depend on the number of participants. In case of very bad weather, the program may be adjusted.
