Berzdorfer See — the beach near Görlitz
Berzdorfer See, south of Görlitz, is a flooded former lignite mining area — today, with 960 hectares of water surface, it is one of the largest lakes in Upper Lusatia and a recreational area for the region. On the west bank in Tauchritz (municipality of Schönau-Berzdorf a.d. Eigen) is Görlitz Harbour with its marina, beach bar, event area, and sailing club. The Hafenfest, held annually on the first weekend of June, is the largest public event on the lake — a family festival with a lake theme, sports competitions, and an evening party program.
Lusatian Cutter Regatta — Competition in the Harbour Basin
The sporting highlight is the Lusatian Cutter Regatta on Saturday. Teams from Görlitz and Lusatian schools, companies, and clubs compete against each other in rowing cutters — a traditional competition that combines teamwork, strength, and fun. On Friday evening, school teams will compete in their own cutter race, accompanied by music from the regional grammar school's band SWIP. On Sunday, the boat parade at 1 p.m. is the highlight — yachts, motorboats, sailboats, and historic watercraft parade by, all decorated.
Hafenbeats, Laser Show, Family Program
Saturday evening is dedicated to 'Hafenbeats': From 7 p.m., DJ team Lectrixx will play, a laser show will illuminate the harbour, and cocktails, pool games, and a carousel will create a festival atmosphere. Before that — from 5 p.m. — there will be a children's disco. Sunday opens at 10:30 a.m. with a greeting from the mayor and the shanty choir, followed by the youth brass band, the boat parade, dance groups, and the live band 'Never Walk Alone' (3 p.m.). Over the three days, parallel events include: water demonstrations by DLRG and the fire brigade (rescue demos), trial sailing and stand-up paddleboarding sessions, alpaca walks along the shore, circus acts, a children's carousel, bouncy castles, face painting, and participatory ball sports.
Getting There
By car: signposted from Görlitz Süd-Ost towards Tauchritz; parking available at the harbour. By bike: via the Görlitz cycle path network to Berzdorfer See (approx. 30 min from Görlitz Old Town). By bus: line 31 from Görlitz station to Tauchritz Hafen.

Three Days at Görlitz Harbour
The 2026 Hafenfest continues the established three-day format. Friday opens with the school cutter race between two Görlitz grammar schools, complemented by a performance from the school band SWIP. Saturday is dedicated to the Lusatian Cutter Regatta — the competition for companies and clubs — and the evening with Hafenbeats, laser show, and cocktails. Sunday provides a festive and family-friendly conclusion with a boat parade, morning pint, dancing, and live music.
In parallel over the three days, there will be water demonstrations (DLRG and fire brigade showing rescue operations on the lake), trial sessions for sailing and stand-up paddleboarding, alpaca walks along the shore, circus acts, and an extensive children's program.
