Colorful kites over the Elbe — Family festival at the Bojenbad — May 14th and 15th, 2026
The Cuxhaven-Altenbruch Kite Festival is a young, but already rapidly growing family event at the mouth of the Elbe. At the Bojenbad Altenbruch — a natural lido with views of the Elbe and passing freighters — the sky transforms into a colorful kite landscape for two days.
The 5th edition takes place on Thursday, May 14th and Friday, May 15th, 2026 — daily from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free, making the event an ideal family outing.
International and national kite pilots will showcase show kites of all sizes and shapes — from small stunt kites and meter-high display kites to spectacular large kites that truly come into their own at well-ventilated coastal locations like Altenbruch. Anyone bringing their own kite is warmly welcome — the beach offers excellent wind conditions.
Altenbruch is a historic district of Cuxhaven with its own distinct identity — known for the impressive St. Nicolai Church with its two towers, which have guided ships into the Elbe estuary for centuries. The Bojenbad is Altenbruch's beach access on the Elbe — a shallow, family-friendly bathing area with wide views over the water.
