154 Years of Dinklage Marksmen Tradition

In 2026, the Dinklager Schützenfest celebrates its 154th edition, making it one of the most traditional marksmen's events in the Oldenburger Münsterland. The Dinklage Marksmen's Association has existed since the 19th century and has developed a club structure over the decades that shapes Dinklage's public life.

Several Companies with Their Own History

A special feature is the division into several companies with their own names and traditions:

• Raubritter: one of the main companies with a long history
• Rummelsburger: traditional company
• Burgwächter: with a connection to Dinklage's historical castle structure
• Further companies complement the club life

Each company has its own costumes, insignia, and activities. At the Schützenfest, they appear together, march in orderly formations, and contribute to the festival with their diversity.

Fourth Weekend of July

The festival traditionally takes place on the fourth weekend of July — in 2026, from Friday/Saturday, July 25th to Monday, July 27th. The fixed date makes it easy to plan the festival into the annual schedule and also allows for coordination with other Schützenfeste in the region.

Classic Schützenfest Program

The program follows the proven structures of a North German Schützenfest:

• Saturday: Assembly of the companies, first festival ceremony, festival evening with dancing
• Sunday: Festival parade through Dinklage with brass bands and flags, king's shooting, proclamation of the new marksmen's king, grand festival evening
• Monday: Frühshoppen (morning pint), king's dinner with the new king and his court, closing ceremony

King's Shooting as the Highlight

The king's shooting is the central event. Representatives of the various companies compete against each other to determine the new marksmen's king. The decisive shot is a moment of highest tension. The new king then reigns for one year — with all the honors and duties of this traditional office.

Dinklage as a Marksmen's Town

Dinklage is a marksmen's town with lived tradition. The Schützenfest is not just a club festival but a town festival in which the population participates broadly. The predominantly Catholic town in the Oldenburger Münsterland combines spiritual and secular traditions in its marksmen's association to create a festival culture that fosters identity.
